What’s happening: The Summer Tour Series from the Westcott Center for Architecture + Design is kicking off its 2025 series on May 24. Tours feature information on the architecture, design, and history of the built environment in the Greater Springfield Region and are led by local historians, curators, artists, and designers. This summer’s schedule includes 15 tours, lasting until early September.
How to participate: Visit
WestcottHouse.org to see the tour schedule and buy tickets. Each tour is labeled by type, differentiating the length, style, and amenities of each. Tours are also assigned a mobility level between one and three, so attendees will know in advance what to expect.
The history: The Summer Tour Series was started in 2004 by Kevin Rose, a historian at the Turner Foundation, to bring awareness to Springfield’s built environment. It was first introduced at the “Summer Walking Tour Series” and featured eight guided walking tours of notable neighborhoods and districts in Springfield. Since its inception, the series has doubled in size and is now overseen by a committee of community volunteers known as the Education Committee at the Westcott Center for Architecture + Design.
