Springfield real estate check: What $150K buys right now

When it comes to real estate, starter homes are a focus for just about every community, affordable homes where families and young professionals can begin to put roots down.

We took a look around town and singled out a few options. Here’s what $150,000 can buy right now.

1133 N. Fountain Ave.: $74,900

Built in 1912, this stucco-clad home is a stunner inside and out. Located near Wittenberg University, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house showcases an impressive array of original woodwork, both in the trim and the built-in features. And then there’s the hardwood floors, enclosed patio, and four gas fireplaces, to boot. The listing says that it needs some TLC, but for that price, it seems to be worth it.

2213 Columbus Ave.: $79,900

This smartly dressed two-story was built in 1916 yet features an updated kitchen, complete with granite countertops and new appliances and cabinets. Located on the east side on a 5,000-square-foot lot, the home is a quick drive away from the mouth-watering hamburgers of the Harvester Inn.

150 Englewood Road: $149,900

Perhaps perfect for someone with a teenager, this 1920s-era two-story features a finished basement complete with a bedroom and full bathroom. And there are plenty of schools nearby, including Lagonda Elementary, Roosevelt Middle, and Springfield High. Cozy wood trim and a stone fireplace make it feel homey, and the new appliances don’t hurt either. Nearby neighborhood establishments include O’Conner’s Irish Pub, The Ridgewood Café, and Mike & Rosy’s Deli, a Springfield classic since 1977.
